ORANGE — A little practice can go a long way.
In its best game yet, Quabbin Inc. received an all-around great performance from several players en route to a 23-4 win over Ames Trophy, Thursday afternoon in Orange Recreation Association action.
Quabbin Inc. got 10 points from Jayden Delgado, six points from Morgan Softic, four points and 10 rebounds from Noah Bailey, and three points from Joey Walker. The team received good defensive efforts from Day Bedward (two steals and two blocks) and Jase Bedard.
Ames Trophy received strong offensive efforts from Marshall Ames and Sean Ramos, while Jack Knechtel, Jacob Pelletier and Darick Parlet contributed key defensive rebounds.
Walker scored the only points in the first quarter with a layup. He also gathered in four steals. Ayden Ellis provided two offensive rebounds for Ames Trophy in the first quarter, while Parlet protected the hoop. Michael Gemelli added one rebound and one steal for Quabbin Inc.
Quabbin Inc. started the second quarter with layups from Delgado, Bailey and Softic to go up 8-0. Ames answered with a jumper for Ames Trophy, connecting on a jumper to cut Quabbin’s lead to six. Bedward then caused two steals that prevented Ames Trophy from pulling closer. Meanwhile, Delgado connected on another layup to give Quabbin a 10-2 edge. Ramos converted on a layup for Ames Trophy, while Softic ended the half with a jumper for Quabbin Inc. to move its lead to 12-4 by halftime.
Knetchell led Ames Trophy’s defensive efforts in the third quarter, gathering in two defensive rebounds and one steal. Bailey and Gemelli led the defensive efforts for Quabbin Inc. With both defenses going strong, Bailey broke through with a rebound and layup to put Quabbin Inc. up 14-4. Walker ended the quarter by connecting on one free throw.
Quabbin Inc. got every player involved in the fourth quarter, both defensively and offensively, which led to an 8-0 quarter. Softic started the scoring with a layup, followed by two layups and a jumper from Delgado to make it 23-4. Walker, Softic, Delgado, Bedward and Bedard all had at least one rebound in the fourth.
With less than one minute left in the second quarter, Softic corralled in the loose ball and brought it down the court. He pulled up on the defender and drained a deep jumper.
