ATHOL — Tuesday was the first day of spring, and while the northeast region is anticipating its fourth nor’easter in less than a month, the town is offering applications for shade trees, with deliveries expected by April 13.
The varieties available include: dwarf tree or large shrub; medium sized tree (flowering crab or similar); tall shade tree, such as maple linden; and fruit trees (apple, pear, etc.).
Applications are available from the Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall. The application requires name, address and specific location of where the tree will be planted. According to the application, priority will be given to residents whose site enhances the visual appeal of the neighborhood.
Only one application per property is allowed, and the Shade Tree Commission reserves the right to deny an application if the proposed site does not meet ASTC guidelines. Completed forms may be left with the town clerk or at the Athol Public Library.
