ORANGE — A 4-0 spurt in the final 29 seconds of overtime gave Witty’s Funeral Home a 34-28 victory over Porter Transportation, Monday afternoon in Orange Recreation Association action.

A jumper by Witty’s Daniel Finch tied the game at 28 with 1:18 left in overtime. With 29 seconds left, Obi Eaton picked off a pass and dished it off to Joshua Jenks, who converted the layup to put Witty’s up 30-28. Seconds later, Jenks picked off a pass and dished it to Eaton, who converted on the layup to put his team up 32-28.

Finch connected on a jumper with three seconds left to put Witty’s up 34-28.

Witty’s began its comeback in the second quarter.

Down 16-10 with 57 seconds left, Jaxon Haggett netted a jumper for Witty’s to ignite an 8-0 run to go up 18-16 by the end of the quarter. Issa Nahayo gave his team the lead when he stole the ball in the defensive end and went the length of the court for the layup.

Nahayo led his team with 12 points.

Nahayo began the third quarter with a pair of jumpers to move Witty’s lead to 22-16. Lucas Isrow (20 points) ended Witty’s run with a jumper. Isrow gave his team a 25-24 lead when he made one free throw, scoring seven straight points for Porter. Nahayo netted a layup through traffic to put Witty’s up 26-25. Isrow connected on one free throw to send the game to overtime.

Porter held an eight-point lead at halftime.

Isrow made a jumper with 4:12 left in the second quarter to tie the game at 4-4. He then scored 10 straight points to give Porter a 14-4 lead. Jenks stopped the run with a layup, cutting Witty’s deficit to 14-6 by halftime.

With 1:02 left in the second quarter, Isrow took the ball to the hoop. He faked a pass to the right and while still going to the hoop, turned his back to the defender, faked a pass to the left and made a hook shot from underneath the basket to give his team the 10-4 lead.
