ROYALSTON — Ten percent of Royalston’s 900 registered voters turned out for the Town Election this week.
There were no contests and numerous unfilled slots on the annual Town Election ballot. Combined with the wintery mix on Monday morning, it all seemed to add up to a lackluster voter turnout.
Deborah D’Amico received 83 votes to be elected to the Selectboard seat long held by Linda Alger. Alger retired following two decades in that position.
The Athol-Royalston Regional School Committee will see the return of Royalston representative Carla Rabinowitz. Royalston also chose to re-elect Athol members Joao Baptista and Deborah Kuzmeskas for three-year seats, and Kenneth Vaidulas for the one-year seat.
Write-in winners included Stephen Chase for three years on the Board of Assessors. Running unopposed, Wade Harmon was elected as an assessor for one year. Jennifer Basso was the write-in winner for a three-year Library Trustee seat.
Write-in ties resulted in no winners for the Board of Public Welfare, where there was a five-way tie of one vote each for the three-year position. The Planning Board saw a two-way tie of two votes each for the three-year seat. Four one-year terms for trustees of the John N. Bartlett Fund were up for grabs and saw Roy Smith Jr. and Gary Winitzer re-elected, but there were five-way ties of one vote each for the two open seats.
Selectmen will ask for volunteers for the unfilled positions. Interested residents should contact the selectmen.
