ORANGE — Porter Transportation will have a crack at reaching the championship game.
After beating the Senator Boosters, 39-31, Wednesday, Porter will face Quabbin Inc. in the semifinals on Thursday at 4 p.m.
The winner will face Witty’s Funeral Home in the Orange Recreation Association championship game on Friday at 6 p.m.
Senator Boosters concluded their season.
Lucas Isrow scored 14 points and added four rebounds, while Jaxon Archambault scored 11 points and added four rebounds for Porter Wednesday.
Zaccai Perry scored six points and added five rebounds, while Roy Adams added six rebounds and Nathan Griffith brought in eight rebounds and six points.
Senator Boosters threatened down the stretch in the fourth quarter, going on a 7-1 run to pull within 35-31 with 1 minute, 24 seconds left.
However, Isrow netted a layup with 42 seconds left to push Porter’s lead to 37-31. Griffith added insurance with a jumper at the 24-second mark.
Porter led by 10 points midway through the fourth quarter when Isrow connected on a free throw.
Perry scored all four of Porter’s third-quarter points, while Dylan Young netted the only two points of the quarter for the Boosters.
Porter Transportation led 15-8 by the end of the first quarter. Griffith gave his team a 9-2 lead with he gathered in the rebound and then completed the basket. Young closed the gap to within 11-8 with two layups, but a layup from Perry and a basket from underneath the hoop by Griffith gave Porter a 15-8 lead at the end of the quarter.
Porter jumped out to a 19-8 lead to start the second quarter. Senator Boosters cut the deficit to 21-16 with just over two minutes to go. Porter held the 23-18 advantage going into halftime.
On a half-court pass that went a little too far and missed the intended target, Senator Boosters’ Michael Gagnon reached up and gathered in the ball underneath the hoop before the errant pass went out of bounds. While still in the air from gathering the pass, he put the ball up for the layup in the second quarter.
