ATHOL — The Athol junior varsity baseball team lost twice last week, the Red Raiders lost twice within the last week. The Red Raiders fell to Greenfield High School, 8-4, in five innings on April 13, and 8-6 to Hopkins Academy on April 18.
In the team’s game against Greenfield, Jaycob LaMarche went 3⅓ innings, giving up five earned runs. Jonathan Mahony pitched the final 1⅔ innings, giving up three earned runs.
Josh Thompson led the Red Raiders, going 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Jack Bonenfant went 1-for-2, while Jaden Leblanc went 1-for-3.
In the team’s game against Hopkins Academy, the Red Raiders fought hard in the sixth inning, stringing together two runs to close the deficit to 8-6, but left one runner stranded and the tying run at the plate to finish out the inning.
The Red Raiders began the game with a 4-0 lead, but then gave up three runs in the bottom of the first inning, cutting the team’s lead to one. Hopkins Academy added three runs in the second inning to go on top 6-4.
Bonenfant went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Evan Mayer went 1-for-2 with one walk and two runs. Isaac Bastine went 1-for-1 with one walk.
