ORANGE — On Tuesday at Mahar Regional High School, the Athol varsity girls track and field team defeated Pioneer Valley Regional, 79-57, for its first win in two years.

For the Red Raiders, Taylor Cleveland placed first in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 6 inches. The throw qualified Cleveland for both the District F&G Division 2 and Central/West Division 2 meets. Cleveland also earned first in the discus with a throw of 69-8.

Freshman Catherine Martine was third in the shot put (20-11), while Mercedes Young was second in the javelin (77-10).

Grace Dufour won the 800 meters in 3 minutes, 6.6 seconds, was second in the long jump (12-7) and third in the triple (27-5).

Crista Jillson earned first in the triple jump (28-8) and first in the 400 (72.0).

Payton Parker finished second in both the high jump (4-0) and 100 (21.6).

Eighth-grader Kassidy Swan and Shelby Mailloux placed first (6:52) and second (6:53), respectively, in the mile.

Liberty Smith earned third place in the 400 (76.0).

Track newcomer Julia Benoit came in second in the 400 hurdles in 1:24.2. Fellow newcomer Leann L’Hueruex was third (1:38.5) in the same event.

Athol’s 4×400 relay was first in 4:59.
