ORANGE — The Mahar varsity baseball team turned a triple play, but it had only two hits in a 4-0 loss to Easthampton, Tuesday.

The triple play came in the top of the seventh for the Senators (3-5).

With the bases loaded, Easthampton’s Dawson Wolcott lined a pitch to shortstop Sam Paul, who caught it for the first out. He flipped the ball to second base for the second out. Mahar second baseman Jake Tenney threw to first base to get Lance Parrish, but Parrish was called safe. Jacob Berry then threw to third to get the third out of the inning.

Will Peredina (double) and Joey Brozell (single) had the only two hits for the Senators. Paul, who reached on a walk, was the only other runner to reach base for the Senators.

The Eagles scored one run in both the first and second innings, and two in the third.

Nathan Morse scored from third in the first inning when the Senators elected to go to first with the throw. Morse then knocked in Ohm Patel in the second on a grounder to second base. The Eagles went up 4-0 in the third inning on a two-run home run by Wolcott.

Wolcott also pitched seven innings for the Eagles, striking out 15.

Paul started for the Senators and struck out four. He pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits and five walks.

Andrew Herk pitched the final two innings and allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two.
