GREENFIELD — A day after losing to Athol High School, Mahar softball coach Jerry Duguay felt his team played significantly better against Greenfield High School despite losing 13-1 in five innings, Thursday.
“Much better attitude, much better than the day before,” Duguay said. “The boxscore doesn’t show it, but that’s what Greenfield does to you.”
The lone run came in the first inning when Skylar Dodge homered over the right-center field fence for the Senators (3-5). Lani DeDiego had the team’s other hit, reaching on a single.
Oliva Joy pitched well for the Green Wave (7-1), striking out nine in five innings.
Hannah Dupont played well defensively for the Senators with five assists and one putout.
“Communication was great,” Duguay said. “Defensively, we did alright.”
The Senators are off until Monday when they travel to Mohawk Trail Regional High School.
The Mahar junior varsity softball team fell at Greenfield, 14-2, Thursday.
Brooke Mitchell and Jazimine Vezina each had one hit for the Senators, while Vezina and Haylee Allen each scored one run.
Mackinley Drew made her first start on the mound for the Senators, striking out three. She also had three assists.
