NORTHFIELD — The Mahar varsity baseball team lost to Pioneer Valley Regional High School, 4-3, Thursday in another late inning comeback.
The Panthers (5-3) scored one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.
The Senators (3-6) went up 1-0 in the third inning, but surrendered a run in the bottom of the fourth. The team then went up 3-1 in the fifth, only to surrender the lead in the bottom of the inning as PVRS tied the game at 3-3. The Panthers then went ahead in the sixth for good.
Charlie Barnes went 3-for-3 with two triples, two RBIs and one run for the Senators. Andrew Herk went 1-for-2, while Sam Paul doubled. Jacob Berry went 1-for-2 with two walks and one RBI.
Berry earned the loss. He pitched six innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
The Senators are off until Monday when they play long-time rival Athol.
