HATFIELD — Nicholas Bousquet struck out eight and allowed no hits as the Athol varsity baseball team beat Smith Academy, 1-0, Wednesday.

Bousquet pitched seven innings for the Red Raiders (7-6) and walked four. He also scored his team’s run.

Bousquet worked himself out of multiple jams in the no-hitter. He walked the bases loaded in the fourth inning, but got out of the jam by striking out Smith’s Brett Gratz and Owen Baranoski.

He also got out of a jam in the fifth when he picked off the lead runner trying to take third for the second out. He later forced an inning-ending groundout by Michael Bassett with runners on second and third.

Bousquet picked off Colin Ferrara at third base in the sixth inning, and Gratz in the second inning.

Bousquet scored in the first inning. He singled to leadoff the game then stole second. Bousquet moved up on a groundout by Joey Lehtomaki and then scored on a passed ball.

Kris Selanis went 2-for-3 for the Red Raiders. James Laford, Anthony Oro and Maysin Tarbell all added one hit.

Daniel Cavanaugh struck out six and walked two over seven innings for Smith Academy.
