GREENFIELD — The Athol varsity girls track and field team lost to Greenfield High School, 86-50, Tuesday. Within the loss, however, were several Athol athletes who qualified for the Western Massachusetts Division 2 championship meet.

Taylor Cleveland qualified in the shot put with a first-place throw of 24 feet, 8½ inches. Mercedez Young qualified in the javelin with a throw of 70-3, good enough for third place. Grace Dufour qualified in the long jump with a second-lace jump of 14-3. Athol’s 4×400-meter relay team of Shelby Mailloux, Emily England, Crista Jillson and Grace Dufour qualified as well.

England in the 100 (14.4 seconds, second) and 200 (30.8, first), Liberty Smith in the mile (7:04, third), Jillson in the 400 (69.4, first) and triple jump (28-9.5, second), Mailloux in the 400 hurdles (83.5, first), Dufour in the 800 (2:47.7, first), Sarah Jaillet in the 200 (32.6, third), Young in the 2-mile (15:40, third), Payton Parker in the long jump (13-2, third) and triple jump (27-6, third) and Catherine Martin in the discus (56-7, third) and shot put (23-11, third).
