MONSON — A seventh run fourth inning led the Athol varsity softball team to a 10-3 defeat of Monson High School on Friday afternoon.

The Red Raiders end their season with a 12-8 record and now enter the Western Massachusetts Division III tournament.

The Red Raiders sent nine batters to the plate in the fourth inning and generated seven runs on four hits and two walks. Athol added three more runs in the fifth inning to go on top 10-3.

Monson scored three runs in the second inning.

Lindsey Leblanc added one double, one single and two RBIs. Haley Bigwood and Sadey Lehtomaki added two RBIs each, while Destiny Wrigley added one double.

Leblanc earned the win, pitching 5 ⅓ innings, giving up four hits, one walk and striking out three. Bigwood pitched 1 ⅔ innings and gave up one hit, two walks and struck out one.

Middle School Softball Athol 13,Smith Academy 6

HATFIELD — The Athol-Royalston Middle School softball team finished out its season with a 13-6 win over Smith Academy. ARMS finished the year with a 13-2 record.

Reily Polana led the efforts, going 4-for-5 at the plate with one triple, one home run and three runs. She also pitched one inning and struck out two batters. Kendall Deleo had four walks and scored four runs. She also pitched one inning and struck out three batters.

Sam Kenniff went 3-for-5 with three runs, while Kristinna Siggurdson went 2-for-5 with two runs and pitched five innings, striking out 14 batters. Emma Bacigalupo went 1-for-2 with one run, while Jenna Bonenfant went 2-for-2 and Anj Dunn went 1-for-2.

With a 5-1 lead, ARMS scored five more in the top of the fifth inning to go up 10-1. Smith Academy scored two in the bottom of the inning and two more in the sixth inning to make it 10-5. ARMS then scored three runs in the seventh inning while Smith Academy scored one in the bottom of the inning for the 13-6 final.
