GARDNER — The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at Heywood Hospital was presented with the President’s Circle Award for outstanding performance.
The center achieved patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and a healing rate of at least 91 percent in fewer than 30 median days for two consecutive years.
The center was awarded the prestigious honor by Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Out of 340 eligible centers, 26 were honored nationwide, and Heywood Hospital is one of three in Massachusetts. The award is named for Dr. Robert A. Warriner III, a pioneer in wound care and the former chief medical officer for Healogics.
“We are thrilled to have our Wound Care Center recognized on a national level for the outstanding care it provides our patients every day,” said Heywood Healthcare President and Chief Executive Officer Win Brown. “At any given time, almost 7 million Americans suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds. Our center uses the most up-to-date approaches to wound healing and remains current in new scientific advances in wound care. For most patients, our program leaves them completely healed in just a few months and helps them get back to their normal lives.”
The award was celebrated at a reception earlier this month. Hospital staff, physicians, advanced practice providers and community partners enjoyed refreshments, tours and remarks from Hospital Administration.
The Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine at Heywood Hospital offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds that have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. Advanced treatments included negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.
