ORANGE — A fire destroyed a Mechanic Street garage Sunday afternoon.
According to Fire Chief James Young, the cause of the fire was determined to be a burning barrel that spread to combustibles on the ground, and ultimately to the shed.
While there is no official damage estimate yet, Young said a motorcycle and a large amount of tools and equipment were destroyed. Four vehicles, a dirt bike and siding on the rear of the home were also damaged by radiant heat.
There were no injuries.
The garage, which sat separately from the house on 82 Mechanic St., burned to the ground after the original call came in around 2 p.m.
The fire was quickly knocked down, but three Orange fire engines remained on scene as of around 2:45 p.m. Two Orange police cruisers blocked part of the road.
Fire personnel originally had concerns of an explosion.
