PETERSHAM — The Drama Circle will present readings of two plays on Sunday, August 12, starting at 2 p.m., “The Mind Has Legs,” by Vicki Meagher, and Coup d’etat by Cooper Wood. In the “Mind Has Legs,” Meagher presents the story of Hardy, a middle-aged paraplegic man, and Megan, a young suicidal woman, who become unlikely friends in the aftermath of a tragedy. Wood’s “Coup d’etat” involves the president of the Supreme Court, a general, a Navy captain, a colonel, a doctor and TV reporter and crew. It does not end well for someone in power.
The Drama Circle is held in the Davis Memorial building, 3 West Street.
Meagher is a full-time playwright living in Nashua, N.H. Her seven full-length plays, ”Mother Yucca,” “Limestone City,” “Baby Brain,” “Daddy Dustball,” “The Mind Has Legs,” “Say Yes To Tootlebritches,” and “Remembering Mackie Landerson,” are available on the New Play Exchange. She’s been writing plays for five years. Meagher is treasurer of the Playwrights’ Platform and is also a member of the Merrimack Valley Playwrights, Dramatists Guild, International Centre for Women Playwrights, and Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights.
Wood, a Navy veteran, has traveled extensively and been involved in writing and community theater for decades.
The Drama Circle, which is free of charge and open to the public, is dedicated to the development of original works for the stage and screen. Sally Sennott’s play, “A Retro Tale” on sexual harassment in the 1950s will be rescheduled.
