Letter to the Editor: In support of Chief Kleber

Chief Russell Kleber has brought principled leadership and integrity to the Athol Police Department. Upper most among his many concerns are the rule of law and the safety of our people.

The chief is an individual with unique experience and skills. Growing the department is one of his ways to address the town’s evolving wants and needs. A person must have specific qualities to accomplish these needs. His attributes enable him to carry out his role. To name a few, the chief is committed, collaborative, optimistic, participates in all meetings, will engage in committee roles and or leadership roles as needed.

Chief Kleber is a quality individual and a great asset to Athol. This dedicated leader has added much to the Department in terms of officers being more visible on Main Street and in the schools to mention a couple. He listens to the needs and wants of its citizens and has initiated an advisory board consisting of senior citizens and high school age people to facilitate understanding at both ends of the age spectrum. His dedication to the town is evident in the actions he takes.

The action being taken against this dedicated leader appears to be the result of negative internal politics. Our hope is that any problem that exists will be rectified and any damage caused to him or his family will be repaired.

If Athol is ever to experience a rebirth, this kind of activity negates that happening. Rather, we will decline and the glory days of Athol will be a myth.
