On August 11, the U.S. Postal Service issued a second version of the stamp noting the 100th anniversary of air mail. The original stamp was issued in blue on May 1. The new version of the first class mail forever stamp will be in red ink, depicting the type of biplane that was used to carry the mail in 1918.
These will be issued in panes of twenty self-adhesives. College Park, MD was the official first day site for this stamp.
A small coin show will be held on August 18 in Hinsdale, NH at the Millstream Community Center on Routes 63 and 119. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with free admission and off-street parking.
A stamp show will be held on August 21 in Northampton at the World War II Veterans Club at 50 Conz St. (off Route 5). Hours are 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with free admission, off-street parking, and lunch snacks.
The U.S. Mint will begin taking orders on August 14 for its second proof version of the one ounce silver eagle coin. The version issued in January had a “W’ mint mark for the West Point mint; this version will have an “S’ mint mark for the San Francisco mint.
On August 16, the U.S. Mint will begin taking orders for silver medals depicting George Washington and John Adams. These are official reproductions of medals previously sold by the mint in bronze and copper versions for many years,
It is presumed that this will begin a series of silver medals of all the Presidents to be done in sequence.
