ORANGE — The cause of a fire that destroyed a garage at 141 Prentiss St. this past weekend is still being investigated, according to Orange Fire Chief James Young.
The fire was called in around 9:05 p.m. on Sept. 15, and the garage was fully involved when firefighters arrived on the scene. According to a Facebook post from the Orange Fire Department, Deputy Chief William Gale was the first to arrive at the residence. Young said no injuries were reported.
Athol Fire, New Salem Fire and the Phillipston Fire departments all responded to the scene to assist in putting the fire out, said Young. Erving Fire Department covered Orange’s downtown station.
Wood’s Ambulance responded, as well, for standby and to cover in-town emergencies.
The house was saved with minimal exterior damage caused by the heat of the fire, said fire officials. The garage was considered to be a total loss, along with a pickup truck that sat next to the garage. An excavator from Don Matthews Excavating was called to assist in overhaul and extinguishment, said the Orange Fire Department.
