The Athol girls volleyball team had another reason to celebrate after its first win of the season, Thursday against Greenfield.

Abby Roberts, a captain for the Red Raiders, accomplished an individual milestone with her 100th career kill.

Getting a win and an individual accomplishment all in the same night was especially positive for the team.

“That definitely was a plus,” Roberts said. “It made me more hyped up to get it.”

With the win, the Red Raiders (1-12) move forward with their season with some added confidence.

“I think it will really help us,” Roberts said. “Because we know it’s possible to win.”

The Red Raiders are back on the court Wednesday at home against Greenfield.

“I really feel like it was encouraging for the girls,” Athol coach Nick Savoie said. “It was a big achievement for Abby. She’s been leading the team in kills. It’s great to see a captain do that.”
