PETERSHAM — Two members of the town’s Board of Assessors met with the Selectboard this week to discuss the 2019 tax rate.
Selectboard Chairwoman Nancy Allen said the board voted to approve the assessors’ recommendation of a tax classification of one in Petersham.
Assessor Dana Kennan advised the board the 2019 tax rate is projected to increase about 70 cents from $16.37 to $17.07.
The board, along with the Advisory Finance Committee and vice chairman of the Broadband Municipal Light Plant Board John Blum, met to review a draft warrant for the scheduled Special Town Meeting, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Residents will vote on approving the request of additional funding for the town’s broadband system.
In other news, Petersham residents can start requesting permits for the wood bank on Monday. The board voted to open the wood bank Nov. 3 at the transfer station.
Allen said those interested in picking up wood can follow the station’s regular hours. This Sunday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., individuals can volunteer to assist with various jobs at the station such as wood splitting, transferring rounds to splitting stations, stacking crates and more. The volunteer day is organized by the Petersham Tree Warden Melissa LeVangie and the Petersham Forest and Shade Tree Committee with support from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
The board also appointed Petersham residents David Boeri and Anne Cavanaugh to the open seats on the Conservation Commission. Allen said the individuals were recommended by Chairman Bob Clark.
