For the first time since the beginning of September, the Mahar girls soccer team lost.
The Senators traveled to Huntington and lost to Gateway Regional, 2-0, Saturday.
“We got what we deserved,” Mahar coach Chad Softic said. “We didn’t come ready to play.”
Mahar (11-2, 7-1 Pioneer North) could not get much going on offense against the Gators. Tori Tenney controlled the play in the midfield for the Senators, while Abby Bonk and Sarah Graeff paced the defense.
Neither team had many chances to score, but the Gators took full advantage of their opportunities.
Peyton Bucko scored on a breakaway just before the half for the Gators (8-2, 6-1).
Erin Harris scored the second goal for Gateway, turning and firing past Mahar keeper Marie Nottleston to make it 2-0.
Jazmyn Vautour missed the game for Mahar with a back injury, but should be back this week.
