ROYALSTON – Thirty four people recently celebrated the 115th anniversary of the South Royalston School Reunion. Each year, people who attended or taught at the South Royalston School get together to reminisce. Held at the Royalston Fish and Game Club, this year was a Patriots game day gala. A potluck lunch was served as the group cheered on the Pats to a victory over the Miami Dolphins 38 to 7.
Raffles of donated items and gift cards from area business took place with the monies going into the scholarship fund. Amber Mahoney is the recipient of this year’s scholarship. Currently, applications are available from the Athol High School Guidance office. The officers will review expanding the applicants to include Royalston students attending tech schools, school choice, and home school.
A moment of silence was held in memory of several people who passed away since the last meeting. Remembered were Bennie Gronowitz, Gertrude Parnanen, Jesse Verolini, and Roger Harrington. First time attendees Marie Mello, Cheryl Newman and Fred Charest were welcomed.
Recognized as the oldest and coming the farthest was Oliver Hacker, 92, who drove from Waco, Texas.
