Playing in Springfield, the Mahar boys soccer team tied with Sabis International 3-3 on Tuesday.
The Senators (8-5-3, 5-2-3 McGrath) got goals from Henry Ndayisaba, Riley Drew and Liam O’Donnell with Nathan Sakowicz adding an assist.
Jonathan Mahony, playing in his first game as a varsity keeper, made six saves for Mahar.
With regular goalies Ethan Williams and Logan Dodge both out due to injury Mahony volunteered to play against the Bulldogs.
“He really stepped up for us,” Mahar coach Dan Guertin said. “We are on our third keeper. I give him (Mahony) a lot of credit.”
Mahar hosts Pioneer Valley Christian on Wednesday.
South Hadley 5, Athol 0 – The Red Raiders got shut out on the road against the Tigers.
Athol (8-8, 6-6 Schmid) needs just one more win to qualify for the playoffs with two games left. The Red Raiders host rival Mahar on Thursday.
Casey Mason made eight saves for Athol.
Frontier 3, Athol 0 – Hailey Wrigley made 13 saves in a loss for the Red Raiders in South Deerfield.
Athol (6-9 3-7 Pioneer North) needs to win its final three games to make the postseason.
The Red Raiders play at Mohawk on Wednesday and at Pope Francis on Friday.
Southwick 2, Mahar 0 – Bella Marigliano made nine saves while Caroline Chase made three, but the Senators were shut out on the road.
Mahar had more shots than Southwick, but the Rams had 22 corners compared to five for the Senators (9-5-3, 2-5-3 Bi County).
