The UMass hockey team pulled its goalie and scored the equalizer in the final minute, then freshman Marc Del Gaizo netter the overtime game-winner as the Minutemen beat Merrimack, 4-3, Saturday in North Andover.
The 16th-ranked Minutemen (5-1-1, 2-0-0 Hockey East) tied the game with 33 seconds left in regulation. Cale Makar found John Leonard, who sent a cross-ice pass to Philip Lagunov for the goal.
In overtime, Del Gaizo was at the post where he cleaned up a rebound from his brother Anthony Del Gaizo and Leonard.
UMass tied the game at 1-1 in the first period. Jacob Pritchard converted his second power-play goal of the weekend with assists from Leonard and Mitchell Chaffee at the 16:45 mark.
Chaffee made it 2-1 with another power-play goal early in the second. Pritchard and Makar had assists.
Filip Lindberg finished with 26 saves.
