The Mahar football team will look to win its third straight before it plays crosstown rival Athol on Thanksgiving.
The Senators (2-7) will host Pathfinder (0-7) at the Woodward Complex on Friday at 7 p.m. in their final non-tournament game.
“They (Pathfinder) are having the same problem we are as far as scoring points,” Mahar coach Jim Woodward said.
The Pioneers generally run the ball out of the I-formation with an occasional chance downfield through the air.
After two consecutive wins the confidence level of the Senators is the highest it has been this season.
“I’d like to be able to play defense and shut them down,” Woodward said. “I would like to be able to score some points and be able to play my whole team.”
Running back Jon Gariepy is playing some of his best football right now for the Senators after last week’s performance a 16-8 win over Mohawk.
Gariepy scored both touchdowns for the Senators and rushed for 87 yards on 23 carries. The two touchdown scampers of 5 and 15 yards helped rally the Senators from an 8-0 halftime deficit.
For the most part, young quarterback Noaha Chabot is playing mistake free football and that is what Mahar needs from him.
The defense has played effectively in the last two wins, giving up 14 points combined.
