The Mahar wrestling team went on the road to Sabis International and returned from Springfield with a 36-34 win on Wednesday.
Seventh-grader Landon Hardy came up big for the Senators, avoiding a pin in his match at 126 pounds to keep Mahar within striking distance. Hardy fell by major decision, 13-3.
The Senators (1-0) got wins from multiple weight classes as well as some forfeits to pull out the victory.
Mahar’s Jeff Kidwell beat Evan Tran at 106 pounds by fall (1 minute, 23 seconds).
Todd Chiasson was victorious for the Senators over Christian Fagan with a pin (4:23) at 160 pounds. Jayden Carey earned a pin in 26 seconds at 182 pounds for Mahar.
Caleb Watson won by fall (1:21) over Jarel Greene at 285 pounds.
Watson’s win came in his first varsity match.
Peter Tattan also won for Mahar at 170 pounds.
Granby 47, Athol 30 — Caleb Cox got a win at 145 pounds by fall for the Red Raiders in a road loss.
The Red Raiders got four forfeits to round out their scoring, including Chris Waslaske at 195 pounds.
