Led by an all-around defensive effort, the Mahar girls middle school basketball team beat Hopkins Academy, 34-3, in Hadley on Tuesday.

The Senators grabbed 30 rebounds in the win.

Pacing the offense was Kendrah Doane and Cassidy Boutell with eight points each.

Alivia Patch (six points) cleaned up on the boards with eight rebounds.

Alexis Packard added four points with seven rebounds for the Senators.

Mahar 62, Four Rivers 11 — Gavin Sullivan scored 16 points, with Lucas Isrow adding 10 for the Senators in a win for the boys middle school basketball team on Tuesday.

Connor Sluder added eight for Mahar.

Sullivan led the way with 19 points in a 50-23 win over Mohawk on Dec. 6.

Sluder was in double-figures with 12 points.

Athol 50, Turners Falls 35 — The Red Raiders boys middle school basketball team beat the Thunder in their season opener at home on Wednesday.

Athol’s up-tempo pace allowed them to overcome some early foul trouble.

Aedan Erickson (12 points), Angel Castillo (11 points) and Conall Tontodonato (10 points) all reached double-figures for the Red Raiders.

Caleb Leblanc and Sawyer Lizotte led the defense for Athol (1-0).

Quaboag 39, Mahar 35 — The Senators girls basketball team had an early lead but it slipped away in a road loss in Warren on Monday.

A 16-9 fourth quarter for the Cougars doomed the Senators.

Abby Henne (17 points) and Ava Liberty (11 points) led the Senators’ offense.
