Mason Barrieau’s blazing run in the 300-meter dash highlighted the Athol indoor track team’s performance at the Winter Festival at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Sunday.
Barrieau finished second (37.71 seconds) in the 300 out of 115 runners. The run also qualified Barrieau for the Division 5 state championships.
Dennis St. Jean placed eighth (2:47.62) in the 1,000-meter run, which was good enough to qualify for the PVIAC championships. There were 65 runners in the event.
The 4×800 relay team of Anthony Marcucci, Noah Aukstikalnis, Barrieau and St. Jean qualified for the PVIAC championships with a 10th-place finish (9:28.05) in Boston.
For the girls, the 4×200 relay came within a second of a school record. Congestion caused by another team during an exchange led to a slow down for the team of Emily England, Sadey Lehtomaki, Shelby Mailloux and Grace Dufour.
The Red Raiders placed 22nd (2:02.50).
Dufour notched a 36th-place finish (48.50) among 141 runners in the 300-meter dash.
Mailloux was 38th (2:00.93) out of 69 runners in the 600.
The Red Raiders return to action this Saturday in Boston at the Speed Classic.
