Some defensive adjustments for the Athol girls middle school basketball team led to a 33-25 win over Sabis International at home on Friday.
The adjustments came after Athol’s season opening loss to Turners Falls.
Jenna Bonenfant led the Red Raiders (1-1) with 19 points.
Lizzy Mailloux had nine points with three steals.
Sammy Mailloux added three steals for Athol, and Brooke Hopkins pulled down five rebounds.
Turners Falls 34, Athol 24 — Bonenfant scored 10 points with six rebounds in the Red Raiders’ season-opening loss on Dec. 12.
Lizzy Mailloux added six points and three steals.
Athol 57, Smith Academy 22 — The middle school boys basketball team jumped out early on the Falcons and came away with a win on Friday.
Aedan Erickson scored 14 points for the Red Raiders, with Conall Tontodonato adding 11.
Angel Castillo chipped in with nine points.
Mahar 32, Turners Falls 18 — Kendrah Doane notched the rare double-double with points and steals in a win for the Senators girls middle school basketball team on Monday.
Doane had 13 points and 14 steals for Mahar.
Alivia Patch scored 14 points win nine rebounds and two steals.
Mahar 25, Mohawk 0 — The Senators shut out the Warriors on Thursday.
Deanna Smith led the Senators with five points. Mary Simon, Patch, and Sophia Woods each had four points each.
Alexis Packard had 14 rebounds for Mahar.
Mahar 41, Turners Falls 38 — The Senators boys middle school team stormed back from down 13 points with four minutes left in the game to secure the win on Monday.
Gavin Sullivan (10 points), Connor Sluder (19 points), Hunter Martin (five points) each had clutch baskets toward the end of the game to complete the comeback.
The Thunder had a chance on the final possession but could not get a shot off.
Mahar 50, Mohawk 23 — Mahar cruised against the Warriors at home on Thursday.
Sullivan had 19 points with Sluder adding 12 points.
Leominster 36, Mahar 32 — Lack of consistent free-throw shooting led to a road loss for the Senators’ girls team on the road on Friday night.
Abby Henne scored 18 points, with Ava Liberty adding 11 points with 12 rebounds.
Easthampton 50, Mahar 38 — The Senators’ boys team lost on the road on Monday with only seven players as several other players were called up to varsity.
Elias Spencer had 13 points with nine rebounds. Charlie Anderson added 10 points for the Senators.
Mahar 42, Hampshire Regional 41 — Luke Melanson scored 14 points with nine rebounds in a road win for the Senators.
Ayden Santana had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Ware 43, Athol 37 — Vincent Gordon scored 14 points for the Athol boys team in a road loss on Monday.
Connor Mahony added eight points for Athol.
