Reily Polana’s outside shooting allowed the Athol junior varsity girls basketball team to pull away and beat Smith Academy, 33-20, on Thursday night.

Polana hit two 3-pointers in the second half, and another deep jumper to finish with nine points.

Polana’s outside shooting was a good complement to Emma Bacigalupo’s ability to get to the rim and finish for the Red Raiders.

Bacigalupo had 12 points for Athol, which trailed the Falcons 8-1 after the first quarter.

Polana’s 3-pointer to start the second half gave Athol the lead for good.

Mahar 38, Smith Academy 24— The Senators turned a halftime deficit into a road win against the Falcons on Tuesday.

A 14-0 third-quarter run for the Senators was the difference.

Ava Liberty had 14 points and 16 rebounds. Abby Henne scored 14 points and led the defense with eight steals.

Makyala Mathurin rounded out the scoring with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Boys junior varsity

Mahar 56, Smith Academy 51 — Down 31-16 at halftime, the Senators used a big second half to come back and beat the Falcons on the road on Wednesday.

Cecilio Sanchez (15 points), Charlie Anderson (13) and Ayden Santana (13) each scored in double-figures for Mahar.

Santana worked the glass for 13 rebounds.

Pioneer Regional 55, Athol 48 — Casey Mason and Connor Mahony had 12 points each for the Red Raiders in a home loss to the Panthers on Tuesday.

Christian Casillas scored eight points for Athol.

Girls middle school

Athol 19, Pioneer Regional 12 — The Red Raiders outscored the Panthers 14-2 in the second half to pull away and get the road win on Tuesday.

Jenna Bonenfant led the Red Raiders (6-5) with seven points.

Brooke Hopkins and Kylah Blundon added four points each.

Boys middle school

Mahar 52, Smith Academy 19 — Gavin Sullivan scored 16 points as the Senators cruised past the Falcons on the road on Wednesday.

Connor Sluder had 10 points, with David Johnson adding seven for the Senators.

Athol 44, Pioneer Regional 15 — The Red Raiders jumped on the Panthers in the first half and closed out the win on the road on Tuesday.

Colby Goodwin scored 11 points for Athol.

Conall Tontodonato added eight points for the Red Raiders.
