Swarming defense produced some turnovers for the Athol girls middle school basketball team in a 24-20 win at home against Hopkins Academy on Monday.
The aggressive defense did put the team into foul trouble, but the Red Raiders were able to fight through it.
Jenna Bonenfant led (7-5) Athol with seven points.
Sammy and Lizzy Mailloux scored four points each for the Red Raiders.
Abby Willhite and Bonenfant paced the defense.
Mahar 46, Mohawk 20 – Balanced scoring led to a win for the Senators on Friday in Buckland.
Connor Sluder scored 10 points, with Gavin Sullivan adding nine, and Hunter Martin chipping in with eight.
Will Barnes. Kaleb Lemcke and Milo Troisi added four points each.
Mahar 35, Ware 20 – Natalie Belloli’s 11 steals highlighted a road win for the Senators on Monday.
Belloli added four points for Mahar. Makayla Mathurin led all scorers with 12 points. Abby Henne added eight points.
Mahar 28, McCann 17 – The defense of Natalie Apteker, Jaylynn Eady and Hannah Dupont helped the Senators maintain the lead in a home win on Friday.
Henne scored nine points for the Senators, with Taylor Soucie adding five.
Belchertown 52, Athol 24 – The offense could not get going for the Red Raiders in a road loss on Friday.
Jet Castillo led Athol with seven points. Manny O’Lari added six points while Connor Mahony scored five points with a 3-pointer for Athol.
