Athol and Mahar wrestlers will vie for championships, Saturday at the Central Massachusetts Tournament in Wayland.
It is the second year that both Athol High School and Mahar Regional are competing in the Central Massachusetts Tournament.
Chris Waslaske, of Athol, is the top seed at 182 pounds. Waslaske is looking to win his second consecutive sectional title.
“I expect him to win,” Athol coach Brandon Jefferey said. “I don’t think it will be a cakewalk though there are four guys who are tough wrestlers.”
Second-seed Spencer Fetrow from Holliston High School could be a threat to Waslaske.
The next highest seed for the Red Raiders is John Hicks at No. 2 in the 195 class.
Joey Gray pulled a No. 3 seed at 160 pounds for Athol. Todd Chiasson, of Mahar, will wrestle from the fifth seed in the same weight class.
Caleb Cox will bump up a weight class and wrestle at 152 for the Red Raiders.
Cox’s seed was not finalized as of Friday.
Mahar’s highest seed is Peter Tattan, who is No. 2 at 195.
Jonathan Mahony (113), Henry Ndayisaba (152) and Gracin Bisceglia (195) are all No. 3 seeds for the Senators.
A rematch between Ndayisaba and Cox could present itself in the tournament. The two had a bloody and competitive match during the regular season.
Justin DiDiego drew the No. 4 seed at 138 pounds for Mahar.
