Athol graduate Emily Casella set the shot put record in her first meet of the season for the Assumption College Indoor Track team this winter.

Casella wasn’t finished there.

Casella went on to break the record two more times over the course of the season for the Greyhounds.

Her last throw at the Indoor Track & Field Championships at Smith College set the new record at 44 feet, 6 inches on Feb. 16.

“I’ve just been getting stronger and working on my technique,” Casella said. “At the first meet I set the standard pretty high.”

There was some motivation before the meet in Northampton when teammate Mikalah Schwartz broke Casella’s previous record.

“It was on after that,” Casella said.

Casella’s record breaking throw was good enough for second at the Northeast-10 championships.
