The Frontier Regional girls track team won 10 events to earn an 85-60 victory over Monson Thursday in a Suburban League meet in Monson.
Frontier won the meet in the field, where it won all but one event. Jenna Martin won the long jump (13-2 1/2) and high jump (4-6), Ivy Shattuck took first in discus with a toss of 83-9, Reilly Isler won the javelin with a 100-1 throw and Alena Maes-Polan bested the competition in pole vault with an eight-foot jump.
Claudia Rajballie took first in both the triple jump (30-6 1/2) and the 400 hurdles (75.5 seconds).
The Red Hawks won both relay events, but Monson won nearly all the track events. Marisela Ackerman won the 400 with a dash of 65.2 seconds to go along with Rajballie as the lone Frontier winners on the track.
Frontier 11, Turners Falls 0 — The Frontier Regional baseball team was determined to get out to a fast start against Turners Falls High School Thursday, and they did just that.
Frontier coach Chris Williams pleaded his team to put the bat on the ball early, and his team responded, scoring all 11 runs in the first three innings to top the Thunder 11-0 in a Hampshire League West game played in South Deerfield.
The Red Hawks scored six runs in the first inning, three in the second and two in the third. Garrett DeForest had a two RBI double, and Matt Hildreth had two hits and batted in two runners.
Kiernan Freeman, Corbin Blight, Kalen Evans and Kyle Barnes also recorded RBI’s for Frontier.
Hildreth got the start on the mound for the Red Hawks, going four innings and striking out a pair. Gabe Gochinski came in for relief for two innings, and Dillon Polan threw the final inning. Between the three pitchers, they only allowed two hits off the bats of Jon Fritz and Cayden Lehtomaki.
Smith Voke 18, FC Tech 2 (5) — Smith Voke needed just four innings to amass 18 runs, defeating FC Tech 18-2 in five innings Thursday in a Tri-County League South game played in Northampton.
Nate Mollison had a big day at he plate for the Vikings, hitting two doubles and driving in five runners. Race Drobiak and Dylan Fil each had three RBI’s on two hits apiece.
Tom Doyle had two hits and two runs batted in, and Troy Barayon had three hits and two RBI’s.
Garret Cole had the only two RBI’s for FC Tech.
Smith Voke got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning, and would add on seven more runs in the second. The trend continued, as they scored one run in the third followed by nine in the fourth inning.
Aiden Pike got the win for the Vikings, throwing all five innings and walking just four batters. Max Leh, who had two hits on the offensive side, was the losing pitcher, but had five strikeouts in three innings.
Frontier 21, Palmer 0 (5) — A 13-run second inning propelled Frontier Regional to a 21-0 win over Palmer High School in an independent softball game played in Palmer.
The game ended in the fifth inning after a mercy, with Frontier finishing with 20 hits while surrendering just three.
Olivia Deane and Chloe Cutting split five innings on the mound for the Red Hawks, striking out five and not allowing a run.
The Frontier bats had it going early and often, with 12 players recording hits. Charlotte Doulette went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and four RBI’s.
Ariana Walker also had four RBI’s and Makayla Santos had the lone home run in the game to go along with her three RBI’s.
Olivia Vecellio, Amalie Sullivan, Skyla Burniske, Macy Ring and Santos all had a multi-hit games for the Red Hawks.
With Frontier continuously putting the ball in play, Palmer was not strong in the field, committing six errors.
Amherst 11, Four Rivers 10 — Four Rivers Charter School was just about a fingertip away from knocking off the defending state ultimate champions on Thursday.
After Henry Zwart narrowly missed catching the game-winning point for Four Rivers, Amherst Regional High School went back down the field and scored the game-winner itself in a 11-10 victory in Greenfield.
Four Rivers held a 7-4 lead at halftime and led 8-4 early in the second half but Amherst came back to take a 10-8 lead. Four River responded with a pair of scores to tie the game and send it to sudden-death. Evan Leaf nearly found Zwart with the game-winning point but the throw was just out of his reach.
Four Rivers will host its Invitational Saturday at Greenfield Community College and Greenfield High School.
