Owen Phelps went the distance yet again, and host Greenfield High School scratched together all three of its runs in the home half of the fifth inning to come from behind and knock off Belchertown, 3-2, in a Hampshire League West contest played Monday afternoon at Vets Field.

Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, the Green Wave (11-5, 6-3) got to work. A pair of Belchertown errors put two runners in scoring position, and David Carey came through with a two-run single to stake the hosts to a 2-1 lead. After Carey was sacrificed to second, Hunter Campbell made it 3-1 with an RBI single of his own.

While Belchertown (5-9, 1-7) clawed back with a run in the sixth, Phelps made the lead stand up. He went all seven innings, striking out four and walking a pair to earn yet another victory.

“Owen, I don’t think he had his best stuff, but he’s pitched very well this year for us,” Greenfield coach Tom Suchanek said.

Carey led the offense with two hits, while Campbell, Cam Baird, Jared Hart, Jake Sak and Ryan Cote also added singles.
