Alex Sulda struck out eight to pick up the victory as Great Falls Middle School beat Greenfield Middle School, 10-5, in baseball action Wednesday at Beacon Field in Greenfield.
Hugh Cyhowski played well at catcher in the win and also had two hits and two RBIs. Eli Guerin doubled and drove in two runs, and Jack Doyle played well defensively at second base.
Frontier Ripken
Owen Babb scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning and Yankee Candle walked off a 3-2 winner over Northampton Lions Club in a 50/70 Interleague game at Herlihy Field Wednesday in Whately.
Yankee trailed 2-1 entering the sixth and final inning but CJ Hannum scored to tie the game, and Babb came around to win it. Babb had a hit and an RBI and also picked up the win by firing two scoreless innings of relief with one strikeout. Mason Thornton pitched the first four innings, allowing two runs and striking out five.
Newt Guilbault
Cam Laster smacked an inside-the-park home run, and Booska’s Flooring used a six-run third inning en route to a 13-5 win over Turners Falls Athletic Club in a Newt Guilbault Community League baseball game at Gamelin Field in Turners Falls, Wednesday night.
Jaiden Lapointe (three hits) and Cam Johnson (two hits) paced the Booska’s offense. Nolyn Stafford (five strikeouts) pitched well, while Niel Valle and Davis Burnett both made great plays defensively.
TFAC’s Brody Girard struck out eight in four innings and delivered three hits at the plate. Matt Field, Alex Knapp and Jordan Sullivan Paulino all added a hit.
• Elsewhere, Emmett Spriggs scored on a single to right-center by Ethan Eichorn in the bottom of the seventh inning as Greenfield Savings Bank walked off over St. Kazimierz Society, 8-7.
Eichorn finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the win. Jake Jurek went 3-for-3 with a triple and an RBI, and Spriggs made a game-saving catch in right field.
Zavy Nieves and Kainen Stevens each went 2-for-4 in the loss.
GMLB
Kaleb Reipold was 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, and Kacen Rudd had four hits and a pair of runs in Fitzgerald Real Estate’s 13-9 win over the Elks in Greenfield Minor League Baseball Rookie League action, Wednesday at Lunt Field.
For the Elks, Jakobe Knapp was solid on the mound. Gavin Davis had two base hits and Cooper Hobbs added a pair of stand-up doubles.
Mohawk Youth
Xavier Fripp was 2-for-3 and Jack Cusson struck out six in two innings to help the Buckland/Shelburne Braves to an 8-7 win over the Buckland/Shelburne Padres, Wednesday in Mohawk Youth League Minors Division baseball action.
Dakota Cusimano played well in the field for the Braves.
For the Padres, Jed Amstein pitched two innings with five strikeouts. Sawyer Thurber had a base hit with an RBI. Logan Brisson went 2-3 at the plate.
Orange Little League
Dick’s Auto 15, Athol Lions 3 — Aiden Britt got the win on the mound in a win for Dick’s Auto at James Salevan Field in Athol on Wednesday.
Britt struck out six and gave up three earned runs in three innings. Luke Connors led the way at the plate with three hits and four RBI. Madix Whitman added three more RBI. Sam Connors had two base knocks and an RBI for Dick’s Auto. Wyatt Whitman (three hits) and Eujeyn Smith (hit, two RBI) also did well at the plate. Wyatt Whitman pitched an inning with strikeout.
GGSL
Jenna Petrowicz tossed a complete game with 12 strikeouts, Shylan Luippold had a two-run single, and Ellis Benitez also had a hit to help Gilmore & Farrell Insurance edge Freedom Credit Union, 10-8, in a Greenfield Girls Softball League Ponytail Division game played Wednesday at Murphy Park.
Freedom received a complete-game effort in the circle from Skylei LaPan, who was also 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Layla Hammond was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Emma Little added a hit and an RBI.
GMS wins
Amber Bergeron’s 3-for-3 day featured a home run and four RBIs, and Greenfield Middle School slugged past Mahar, 21-0, in a five-inning softball game on Wednesday.
Ainsley Flynn was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs for GMS, while Carly Blanchard was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish with a double, triple and three RBIs. Lilly Ross went all five innings, striking out five in the shutout.
CFC Senior Open
Two teams tied for first place, as Crumpin-Fox Club held its Senior Open Two-Ball on Wednesday.
Craig Berry and Erik Barnes tied for first place with Tim Brandl and Mike Maguire, as both teams posted 2-over gross scores. Dick Simmons and Tim Rice tied for third place with David Kagan and John Dwyer at 3-over.
The low net was won by a pair of teams at 9-under. Jeff Polucci and Richard Degray tied with Mike Laga and Thomas Basile.
K of C League
Art Girard and Steve Sacco tied for first place with a plus-8 point quota at Wednesday’s Knights of Columbus League played at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.
Dave Dion was third with a plus-5 quota.
Ken Adams was closest to the pin on No. 7 (8 feet), while Ray Zukowski was closest on No. 9 (9-8).
Darren Lenois, Rod Herzig and Ken Adams all won a skin.
CFC Women’s League
Maggie Valentine posted a plus-3 point quota to nab first place in the opening week of the Wednesday Night Women’s League at Crumpin-Fox Club.
Kathy Browne was next at plus-2, while the trio of Kris Shae, Alice Shea and Jean Simmons tied for third at even.
Mace Foehl-Hemphill was closest to the pin on No. 9 (10-7) and Elise Rice was closest on No. 3 (22-9).

Robin Hartnett set the pace, posting a plus-8 point quota to take first place at Wednesday’s Thomas Memorial Ladies League.

Billy Galgamez and Andy Lesenski were low gross winners, firing a 36 at the Timmons League on Wednesday night at Northfield Golf Course.
Frank Penny and Walt Sanieski were second with a gross of 37.
Don LaCoy and George Northrup were the low net winners with a 25, ahead of second-place Jesse Putnam and Jim Jason (27).
Paul Fisher was closest to the pin on No. 6 (6-5), while Jack Letourneau was closest on No. 7 (3-2).
Match medalist was Andy Lesenski (36), followed by Jesse Putnam with a 39.
Greenfield Co-Rec
Mitch Mailloux went 5-for-5 with a double and a home run and Smitty’s Pub winged the Hangar Pub and Grille, 25-4, in a Greenfield Co-Rec Adult Softball League game Wednesday at Green River Field in Greenfield.
Bree Richotte went 5-for-5 with a home run in the win, and Tyler Woodward went 3-for-5 with a round-tripper.
Mike Goly finished 3-for-3 and was a single shy of hitting for the cycle for Hangar, while Matt Welcome went 2-for-3.
• Elsewhere, Jon Rosario finished a double shy of the cycle, helping Beck’s Auto blast Riff’s North, 18-1, in a five-inning game at Hillside Park.
Steve Smith was 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs for Beck’s. Jeff Guy was 3-for-4 with a trio of doubles, and Jenessa Murphy had two hits, including a double, in the victory.
• In other action, Brad Barrett was 6-for-6 with three runs scored and Molly Wickline was 3-for-5 to help Concord Opticals defeat Main Street Bar & Grille, 19-16, at Green River Field.
