The Suburban Leauge 14U All-Star game and Skills Competition took place Wednesday at Turners Falls High School, with the South defeating the North, 19-11.
Makenna Slate and Ainslee Flynn each had a pair of hits for the North team, and Maria Konieczny scored two runs and had a pair of outfield assists.
Brielle Widdlo pitched the first two innings for the North, followed by Slate pitching the third and fourth, Kaelyn Zakaitis in the fifth and sixth and Madison Liimatainen tossing the final inning.
Joss Mettey won the home run derby, knocking six runs over the fence.
Southampton won the running competition and Eastampton won the throwing competition.

Frontier Red scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back, defeating the Agawam Inferno, 10-3, at Merritt Field.
Ashley Taylor pitched a complete game for Frontier, allowing four hits, one earned run, five walks and striking out eight.
At the plate for Frontier, Delaney Fifield led the way with two hits, one a triple, three RBIs and scored two runs.
Margaret Edwards has a single, and a pair of RBIs and runs, Maggie Potter had a double, two RBIs and two runs, Ariana Miller had an RBI triple and Melanie Ring had a single and scored a run.
The defensive play of the day came in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, and runners on second and third, Miller snagged a line drive at shortstop and threw it to Ring at third to complete a double play.
New England Am
Two local golfers made the cut in the 90th New England Amateur Championship on Wednesday.
South Deerfield’s Jacob Zaranek shot 1-under 71 to amass a two-round total of 1-under 143, while Conway’s Nathan Patterson posted a second-round 75 for a two-round total of 4-over 148. Both golfers finished above the cut line of 5-over 149 in the three-day event held at The Quechee Club in Vermont.
The duo will continue on for today’s final day of competition.
Zaranek, who plays out of the Country Club of Greenfield is tied for eighth place after 36 holes, while Patterson, from the Crumpin-Fox Club, is in a tie for 30th place.
Bryson Richards of Barre, Vt., is the leader after 36 holes, carding rounds of 70 and 69 to top the field at 5-under 139.
Thomas Memorial
Rod Brunelle finished with a plus-7 quota to finish first in the Knights of Columbus league at the Thomas Memorial Golf and Country Club, Wednesday.
Butch Tique took second with a plus-6 and Jeremy Roussell followed with a plus-5.
Ray Godin won closest to the pin on hole seven, with a shot landing five feet, nine inches away. Mike Waterman’s shot that landed 11 feet, four inches away from hole nine won him closest to the pin as well.
Stephan Smith, Bill Roussell Sr. Shawn Hubert and Jeremy Roussell each won one skin.
• Chante Jillson finished with the high point quota in the Thomas Memorial Golf Ladies League, Wednesday, with a score of plus-nine.
Kate Dwyer took second with a plus-5 and Mary-Ellen Fydenkevcz and Sally Malloy finished third with a plus-4.
Donna McKemmie won closest to the pin on hole seven, with a shot landing five feet away.
Robin Hartnett eagled hole two.
Crumpin-Fox
Jean Simmons and Liz Dolby tied for first with scores of two in the women’s league at the Crumpin-Fox Club, Wednesday.
Kris Shea and Maggie Haigis split third place with a score of one.
Dolby took closest to the pin on hole nine with a shot landing 20 feet, eight inches from the hole.
Beacon Clay Court Classic
The Beacon Clay Court Classic in Greenfield finally got underway, Wednesday, with three matches being completed.
In the first-round match, and match of the evening, Matt Howell defeated Field Maloney 4-6, 6-3, 10-3, with the final set being a super tiebreaker.
In the second round matches, Kyle Maroni defeated Dave Deherdt 6-0, 6-0, and Tim Prevost topped Ken Hubbard 6-1, 6-1.
On Thursday, Howell and Brian Lamore will square off, as well as Terry Plotkin and Steve Pedigree in second-round matches.
Prevost and Maroni will play a third-round match as well, Thursday.
Montague 3-on-3 tourney
The Montague Parks and Recreation Department is holding its second annual 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament Aug. 10 at Unity Park in Turners Falls.
The tournament will begin at 9:30 a.m. and is organized by NextUp basketball coordinator Josh Morse. All proceeds go toward sustaining the basketball courts for the area youth.
The event is open to anyone 18 years or younger, with teams of four split into four divisions: Varsity, JV, 14U and 12U.
Signup is $40 per team, and the tournament will feature championship prizes and trophies, a four game guarantee, food and refreshment.

FC Tech skills clinic
Franklin County Technical School is running a free football skills clinic on July 30 from 6-8 p.m. at the school in Turners Falls.
The clinic will focus of offensive and defensive individual skills, and players will be broken down by position. The clinic is open to anyone entering grades 7-12.
CVSOA course
The Connecticut Valley Soccer Officials Association will conduct an instructional course for new referees in August.
Members of the CVSOA referee scholastic soccer matches in Hampshire and Franklin Counties during September, October and November.
CVSOA members must be 18 years of age or older and pass a criminal background review.
