Jake Coburn was 4-for-4 with a home run, double and four RBIs, and Luis Melendez slugged a three-run bomb as part of a three-hit night to help No. 3 Beck’s Automotive cruise to a 16-8 victory over No. 6 Concord Optical in a Greenfield Co-Rec Adult League softball A Division opening-round playoff game Friday night at Green River Park.

Kelsey Malloy was a perfect 3-for-3 to help pace Beck’s Auto, with teammate Steve Smith clubbing a two-run home run and a triple in the win.

Justin Nash homered and doubled for Concord Optical, and teammate Todd Wiles was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple.

Beck’s Auto and Bath Fitter will meet this morning at 10 a.m. in a winner’s bracket playoff game, as Bath Fitter beat Hot-L in another first-round game on Friday.

• In B Division playoff action, second-seeded Hubie’s Tavern received a 4-for-4 night with a home run, triple and seven RBIs from Seth Aldrich to upend No. 7 Main Street Bar & Grille, 27-8, at Hillside Park.

Brian Ginnity had three hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs, while Evan Rice (4-for-4, two doubles, three RBIs), Nick Aldrich (three hits, home run, three RBIs) and Stefanie Williams (4-for-4, double, three RBIs) all contributed.

Main Street’s Jeremy Damon had three hits for his club, while Pat Mathey added two hits.

Golf

CCG Junior championship

Gunnar Moore had himself a big day, firing a low round of 74 to capture the Country Club of Greenfield’s Junior Club Championship in impression fashion on Friday.

Moore bested the field by 13 strokes, with runner-up Alex Sulda carding a round of 87. Anthony Zager, Brady Booska and Nate Blanchard all shot 90, followed by Gabe Larouche (91), Gabe Mota (92) and Jeremy Kovalsick (114).

Ryan Blanchard captured the girls club title, firing a round of 91.

Bowling

Shelburne Falls results

Karen Herzog rolled a 117 and Eric Wasileski poured in a 113, giving the duo top honors at Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley’s Thursday Night League.

David Livingston had the men’s high triple of 309, while Herzog was the women’s high triple winner at 313.

Frontier Regional School announced the following opening dates and times for their 2019 fall sports season.

• Varsity and JV football will have its equipment handout Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. Conditioning practice will be Friday, Aug. 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. 

• Middle school football opens Monday, Aug. 19 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

• Boys and girls cross country grades 7-12 begins Thursday, Aug. 22 at 6 p.m behind the High School.

• Boys soccer varsity and JV tryouts for grades 8-12 are Thursday, Aug. 22 from 9:45 a.m. to noon and 5-7:00 p.m. at Herlihy Park.

• Boys middle school soccer begins Thursday, Aug. 22 from 12-1:30 p.m. at Herlihy Park.

• Girls soccer varsity and JV tryouts for grades 7-12 is Thursday, Aug. 22 from 8-10:00 a.m. and  3:00-4:30 p.m. at Herlihy Park.              

• Field hockey varsity, JV and middle school tryouts are Thursday, Aug. 22 from 8:30 a.m. till noon.

• Girls volleyball tryouts are Thursday, Aug. 22. Returning varsity players, JV players and newcomers grades 10-12 will go from 1-4 p.m, seventh graders, eighth graders and newcomers grades 7-9 go from 5-7 p.m.

• Golf tryouts for grades 7-12 are Thursday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. at the Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.

• All potential players must register on Family ID (Familyid.com) and have a medical exam, within 13 months of the first practice date, on record with Frontier to be eligible to participate. Please be aware that student athletes will become ineligible to participate on the exact day 13 months from their last physical exam date.

Turners Falls High School and Great Falls Middle School announced the starting dates and times for the upcoming fall 2019 athletic season. There is also a mandatory fall athlete meeting the first day of school at 2:30 p.m. in the high school theater.
