ATHOL — Music, Dance, Movement And Variety for active seniors is back on Wednesdays, starting Sept. 11 at the Athol Senior Center, 82 Freedom St., from 1-2 p.m. with Betsy Scofield.

Dancing is an excellent way to support brain health, along with physical, emotional, spiritual and social well-being. Movement is key for healthy aging, maintaining mobility and quality of life and music is a wonderful medium for connecting and uplifting.

The dance activities and music vary each time to keep it engaging. Sessions include a gentle warm-up, a simplified social dance step and include the popular “Line Dancing.” Various fitness aspects are woven into the class; cardio, muscular strength, endurance, power, flexibility, balance, reaction speed and multi-tasking.

Participants are equally welcome to dance with smaller or bigger movements, or to simply rest, enjoy the music and dance through their imagination. The most important thing is that participants pay attention to what their body needs and listen to their own limits.

Scofield’s s credentials include providing and instructing the Silver Sneakers Program for the Athol Area YMCA. She sings and entertains with the local band “Free Range.”
