NORTHAMPTON —  A weekday edition of PVIAC indoor track competition saw Crescens Iavorschi grab first-place finishes in multiple events for Greenfield High School on Wednesday night at Smith College.

Despite some soreness from Friday’s season-opening meet, Iavorschi placed first overall in the 55-meter dash (6.73 seconds) and the 300-meter dash (37.58) for the Wave in Wednesday’s Meet No. 2.

“I am going to work hard during (winter) break and come back even faster,” said Iavorschi, referring to the team’s next meet on Jan. 3.

Iavorschi just missed personal records in both events. There will be no holding back any more in the 300-meter dash, according to Iavorschi.

“Now I can go all out when I run it,” Iavorschi said. “I don’t really need to float. I can push myself harder.”

The goal is to earn personal bests sooner rather than later.

“Hopefully the next meet,” he said.

The Greenfield boys team swept all three meets on Wednesday with wins over Baystate Academy (85-10), Hampshire Regional (53-22) and Pioneer Valley Regional (87-7).

The Pioneer Valley boys team fell to Baystate Academy, 43-33.

Iavorschi added a sixth-place finish in the long jump (18 feet, 6½ inches).

Teammates Theodor Popusoi (8.71) and Liviu Mihailicenco were first and second overall, respectively, in the 55-meter hurdles for the Wave.

Popusoi also placed fourth in the high jump (5-6) and 10th in the 600 (1:38.26) for the Wave.

Greenfield’s Alex Bacigalupo topped Franklin County in the 1,000 meters, placing ninth (3:07.81), while Andy Bostrom placed ninth in the mile (5:07.37) for the Wave.

The Greenfield girls team beat Pioneer (56-33) and Baystate Academy (53-30), and tied with Hampshire Regional (44-44).

The Panther girls’ team grabbed a win over Baystate Academy, 48-32.

Gianni Passiglia was 11th in the two-mile run (11:40.56) for the Wave while Noah deRuiter of Pioneer grabbed a 14th overall finish (12:03.22) for the Panthers.

Greenfield’s Emma Savoy had a quick run in the 1,000-meter event with a fourth overall finish (3:46.29). Right behind Savoy was Laila Heilman of Pioneer in fifth (3:47.87).

The Wave did not have the services of star Victoria Marin, who missed the meet.

Kacia Kinsmith was the highest Franklin County finisher in the high jump, tying for fifth (4-6). Kinsmith added a 14th-place finish in the 55-meter dash (8.39).

In the girls’ two-mile run, three Franklin County athletes finished fifth, sixth, and seventh overall.

Kandice Lu clocked in at 13 minutes, 56 seconds for the Green Wave. It was Lu’s second chance at the event after opening the season on Friday.

“I pushed harder than last time,” Lu said. “But I didn’t do as well. I was a bit slower. It just felt harder today.”

Pioneer’s Samantha Baldwin placed sixth in the two-mile (14:18.17). Eva Heath of Greenfield finished seventh (14:22.82), just behind Baldwin.

Shane Subeldia placed 13th for the Greenfield girls in the 600-meter run (2:06.08).

Lu led the way in the afternoon session with a 10th-place finish in the girls’ mile (6:38.84). Sahana Heilman of Pioneer took 14th in the mile (6:49.69).

Samantha Santos placed fourth overall in the shot put (24-07½).

In the boys’ shot put, Greenfield’s Izaak Vigil-Sagan took fourth overall (35-1½).

Senators shine in evening session

In the evening session, Mahar Regional’s Carra Fitzgerald left the field in the dust, placing first overall in the two-mile (12:08.25).

The time was a little below her goal after breaking her own school record (11:55) at Friday’s meet.

“I was on pace the first seven laps,” Fitzgerald said. “But I did not feel good. It’s still not a bad time.”

Kendyl Vermette of Ludlow was second (13:42:05) behind the speedy eighth-grader.

The Senators beat Hampden Charter, 51-24, on the girls side.

Madison Harrington placed in the shot put for the Senators, taking ninth in a field of 37 throwers at 26 feet, 7¾ inches. The throw was a personal best for Harrington.

Aileen Fitzgerald took eighth overall in the high jump for the Senators (4-4). Grace Rich was 15th in the long jump (13-2½) and Gracie Marsh wound up 17th in the 300-meter dash (51:02).
