Anthropocene at Beals Memorial Library

WINCHENDON —The Beals Memorial Library will be hosting its documentary and discussion event Thursday, March 12 at 6 p.m. with a screening of the award-winning Canadian documentary, “Anthropocene: The Human Epoch” (unrated).

Rather than showcasing the beauty of the natural world, “Anthropocene: The Human Epoch” takes the typical nature documentary and turns it on its head, capturing all the ways humans are destroying the planet. The documentary delves into the proposed concept that humans have caused the Earth to enter a new geological epoch. Through startling imagery and experience, the film shows the permanent impact that human activities, such as industrialization, deforestation, and the dumping of plastic and other man-made waste, have had on the environment and the natural structure of the planet.

Narrated by Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander, the film is the third installment in a collaborative series from filmmakers Jennifer Baichwal, Nicholas de Pencier, and photographer Edward Burtynsky, following “Manufactured Landscapes” (2006) and “Watermark” (2013). It’s a must-see documentary for any environmentally-conscious movie-goer!

The Beals Memorial Library is located at 50 Pleasant Street in Winchendon. For more information, contact the library at 978-297-0300. All movie screenings at the library are free and open to the public.
