The U.S. Postal Service will issue a first class rate forever stamp March 15 to note the bicentennial of Maine statehood. The release date is on a Sunday, but it is the anniversary of the exact date that the statehood took effect.
A 1914 Edward Hopper painting of the state’s rugged coastline will be featured in the stamp’s design. This self-adhesive will be issued in panes of 20 stamps, with the official first day ceremony taking place at the armory in Augusta, the state’s capital city.
There will be stamp and coin shows on March 15 at the Holiday Inn, at 9 Northeastern Blvd. (Exit 4 off Route 3). Admission and off-street parking are free, with hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m..
A small stamp show will be held March 17 at the World War II Veterans Club at 50 Conz St. in Northampton. Hours are 9:30a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with free admission and off-street parking.
On March 18, the U.S. Mint will begin accepting orders for the gold American Eagle proof coins. These will be sold in the individual sizes of one-tenth, one-quarter, one half, and one-ounce coins, and as a set of all four in fancy packaging.

Ruetta fleamarket in Hubbardston has announced that it will open for the season April 5, weather permitting. Price of the dealer space will increase from last year, but the public is still admitted free of charge. There is no parking fee, except for those who want to park in the upper lot before the 6 a.m.
