The U.S. Mint will debut the silver version of the 2020 proof coin set on April 17. This will include the same cent through dollar coins struck at the San Francisco mint in proof finish found in the regular proof set, but the dime, quarters and half dollar will be made of silver.
This will be sold at a hefty premium over the bullion value of the coins within it. To order coins from the U.S. Mint, call them at 1-800-USA-MINT, or visit their website at www.usmint.gov.
Due to the COVID-19 protocols, no flea markets are open, even though both Rietta in Hubbardston, and the one in Grafton were supposed to open last Sunday.
The U.S. Postal Service will issue a first class rate forever stamp on April 18 to note the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. The self-adhesive will be issued in a double-sided pane of twenty stamps.
This writer remembers the first Earth Day in 1970. The late John Pine, who taught typing and business at Athol Royalston Regional High School, had his classes go out to the nearby shore of Lake Ellis, and clean up trash found there. It was impressive to go out and do something good for the environment, and it impressed on some of us that throwing trash around had bad consequences.
