Garrett Hasanbasic has played countless rounds at Northfield Golf Club. On Sunday, he made some personal history.
The former Pioneer Valley Regional standout and Northfield resident notched his first career albatross during a round, accomplishing the feat on the par-5 5th hole.
The lefty smacked his driver about 345 yards off the tee, and used a sand wedge from the remaining 100 yards to sink a shot from the fairway.
The odds of an albatross, or double eagle, are an estimated 6 million to 1, according to former longtime Golf World writer Bill Fields. Odds of a hole-in-one is estimated at 12,000 to 1.

GTA Clay Courts tourney
The Greenfield Tennis Association will sponsor a special day of doubles tennis this Saturday. The Greenfield Clay Courts Preservation Benefit/Tournament will raise money for the continued maintenance of the clay courts in Greenfield, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward that upkeep.
Men, women, juniors and seniors of all levels are welcomed to play in this fun single-day event. You will enter as a single person; your doubles partner will be selected randomly and will change throughout the event with each round. Matches will be playing on the very clay courts the GTA is striving to preserve for the community — Beacon and Highland.
Arrive any time before 9 a.m. at the Beacon Field courts for warmup and registration (there will be no pre-registration for this event). Team and court assignments will start at 9:15, and play will start by 9:30. Please bring a new can of balls with you. The tournament will be completed by late morning.
If you cannot commit to the full event, that is not a problem. Come join for a couple rounds if you’d like, and leave when you need to go.
Entry fees are $5 for GTA members, $10 for non-members. As always, memberships will be on sale at the time of registration.
Due to pandemic circumstances, the tournament will not be providing lunch at the event this year. Please bring a mask to use for registration.
For more information, call Larry Klein at 824-8129. Rain postponement will be announced by 8 a.m. on tournament day by e-mail.
