ERVING — A race for treasurer is the only contest on the ballot for the town election on Monday, June 22.
The incumbent Treasurer Julie Wonkka is being challenged by Jennifer Eichorn, a middle school math teacher at Pioneer Valley Regional School. All other positions see incumbents running for re-election in uncontested races, including Selectboard member Bill Bembury.
Polls will be open at Town Hall from noon to 7 p.m.
Treasurer, unlike elected members of town committees, is a salaried position. In the proposed budget for fiscal year 2021, which will go before Annual Town Meeting voters on July 11, treasurer is budgeted at $47,037.
Eichorn has an associate’s degree in business from Greenfield Community College, and a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Isenberg School of Management.
She also noted she has strong interpersonal skills from working as a teacher, which would apply with Town Hall’s financial team.
“If I am fortunate enough to be elected into this position, it would allow me to use my education, professional knowledge and background in finance to have a positive impact within my hometown,” she said. “I love living in Erving and feel that it would be a rewarding opportunity.”
Wonkka did not respond to multiple requests for comment this week and last week.
