Another August road race has announced it won’t be holding a 2020 event.

Race director Ann Fisk said the Montague Mug Race, which has been a fixture on the local running calendar since 1981, has been canceled. The 5.5-mile jaunt that begins and ends in downtown Montague was set to be run on Aug. 15. It joins a growing list of canceled races this summer. The Bridge of Flowers Classic announced earlier this month it wouldn’t be holding its event, and the New England Green River Marathon followed suit on Thursday.

Races have run into the issue of uncertainty, as the state’s reopening plan has listed them under Phase 4. Without much guidance or a tentative date as to when that portion of the plan may be rolling out, many races in the late summer and early fall have begun to cancel.
