ATHOL — The Athol Congregational Church UCC and hundreds of others across the North Quabbin region are rediscovering how they can “Be The Church” during these times of COVID-19.

According to Pastor Candi Ashenden, “We are using the technology to bring our message of love, hope and service to hundreds of others, while staying safely away from potentially dangerous services and gatherings. At the same time, we have a network of serving people who make regular “care calls” and visits with safe distance when it makes sense to visit in person. Even our church building looks alive as we are “Being The Church.”

Through the Missions Outreach Ministry Team, the church is alive with pictures of members doing the work of the church from home. Whether they make masks, calls or mailing cards, the work and joy of sharing continues. The Community Meals continue through the Drive-Through Meals that have been increased since safety restrictions have been changed. The church has served almost 2,000 meals as of June 18. The generous support of community businesses and donations of participants has made this possible: Special thanks to the North Quabbin Business Sponsors Athol Savings Bank; Fiske, Murphy Mack Funeral Home; Pete’s Tire Barn; Noel’s Nursery; Hunts Farm; Kimball Cooke Insurance; Witty’s Funeral Home; Delta Consulting; Whipps Inc; Berube Realty; S,J,4 Service; and Oddy Law.

The Puzzle Swaps are safe ways to make things a little better for our community! Seems like a small thing, but the smiles with each “new” puzzle are moments to enjoy.

Drive by the church, 1225 Chestnut St., to see the display. Information about all that is happening is available at the website atholcongregationalucc@gmailcom, or on Facebook atholcongregational friends group or by phone 978-249-6202.
