ATHOL — Tables with lots of treasures for puzzle masters were recently lined up along the parking area of the Athol Congregational Church in Athol for their first ever Puzzle Swap. Just in time for jigsaw puzzle lovers to get a new supply. No money needed here — just bring one and swap it for another to take home.
There were 20-piece puzzles for little ones, panoramic scenes, scenes of mountains, bubbling streams and designs that a puzzle lover who loves a challenge could enjoy for hours. All were waiting for a quick swap, ready to go to the new home of another puzzle lover. There were old puzzles of historic events and even a puzzle of the USA made out of wood. Puzzles of quilts, cats and even one for the holidays with lights to peek through when the puzzle was finished. There were even puzzles with 5,000 pieces!
Traffic came through the driveway to the first table, where they were greeted by a “traffic master” and then the “cleaner,” who carefully cleaned the box before it joined the display tables. Next, another greeter gave the driver a note of thanks for sharing and the directions from the Board of Health about the short wait before getting started on the puzzle — just to be safe.
Three long tables displayed the puzzles by the number of pieces. The puzzles stood up so that the view was perfect. Helpers at the table were very happy to bring the puzzle closer to the driver for careful selection. It usually didn’t take long before they were off, down the road with a new challenge safely in the car.
Responses were encouraging: “What a nice idea this was!” “I love puzzles, thank you for doing this!” “I have lots more to bring next time!” “My neighbor just called and told me I would love this, so I scooted right down.”
There will be another Puzzle Swap on Friday, June 26. For more information, call 978-249-6202.
