If you miss seeing movies on the big screen, then grab some lawn chairs and bring the family over to the Beals Memorial Library in Winchendon for their socially-distanced Outdoor Movie Nights. For three weeks this August, the library will be showing some great kid-friendly films on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on the library lawn, starting on Thursday, Aug. 13. They’ll also be temporarily opening their used book and media sale from 6 to 8 p.m. on all three movie nights.
Kicking off this fun month of outdoor movies is the 1980s fantasy favorite, “The Princess Bride,” starring Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, and Mandy Patinkin. Framed as an adventurous tale told to a boy sick in bed, the film tells the story of an infamous pirate and the challenges he faces on his quest to be reunited with his one true love.
On Thursday, Aug. 20, the second movie of the month is Disney’s “Tangled,” starring Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi. Rapunzel, a princess with magical, golden hair is imprisoned in a tower until she’s stumbled upon by a runaway bandit, Flynn Rider. With the dashing rogue as her guide, Rapunzel flees her tower to explore the world outside for the first time in her life.
Wrapping up the month, on Thursday, Aug. 27, the library will be screening the classic fantasy film, “The Wizard of Oz,” starring Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, and Ray Bolger. The film follows Dorothy Gale, a young Kansas girl who gets whisked away by the winds of a tornado to the magical Land of Oz, where she makes friends and enemies alike as she tries to find a way back home.
On each Outdoor Movie Night, the Friend of the Beals Memorial Library will be opening the used book and media sale prior to the film screenings, from 6 to 8 p.m. All proceeds from this sale will go towards future library programs and events.
